He helped elevate the status of the women’s PGA Championship. He opened up the prospect that Olympic Club in San Francisco — a spectacular course and place — could be a PGA of America venue for many years to come.
I love the idea in theory; read it and putt it! Pure as can be. But I wonder what it’ll look like in practice — how much grey area remains in enforcing the rules and pushing the limits? I’m wary of more rules. Color me cautiously in favor.
I agree with DylanBryson makes it on points or not at all. Broadly speaking that’s not only appropriate for a first-time player it’s also smart.
On the par-3 13th Woods knocks one to about 15 for a good look at birdie. Rory finishes with twirl and his ball settles about 10 feet away. JT misses the green. JT drains it to drop to -2. Woods gets back to +2.
Next up is the one par 5 on the back nine. JT misses left his first missed fairway of the day. Rory also misses left but finds a decent lie in the rough. He’s still -1 on the day. Tiger hits driver like the others and also finds the bunker on the left side of the fairway. An inauspicious start on this par 5 for our trio.
