So as we make the turn to No. 1 Tiger is at +2 JT remains tied for the lead at -3 and Rory is at even par. All right! Tiger drains his birdie to get back to +2 through his first nine. JT misses his birdie and settles for par and Rory takes a bogey.
On 14 McIlroy misses the fairway to the left in another patch of snarly rough. JT and Tiger are OK. And Tiger misses it on the high side. Safely in for par though. Rory drops it from 12 feet for his first birdie. JT blasts from the sand to tap-in range. Woods next…
Does prohibitive mean you cannot make a case for somebody else? I’ll make a case against JT and his sunshine bandit is extremely difficult to do it for eight consecutive rounds. Four is hard five is harder — then there’s six and seven. Eight is way way hard.
It’s definitely something to consider. Also worth considering will be the many people on that bubble who haven’t recently played their way into contention. Getting there regardless of the outcome has to be worth something to Jim Furyk.
What he has shown in his remarkable year is that he can play good enough golf to win for about 63 holes. Getting from 63 to 72 is like climbing Everest with a Tour bag on your back.
I guess the movement of the PGA Championship to May will be what we remember him for in the immediate future. As for the next person up I’d hope to see that certain sites that have hosted the PGA in the past don’t get completely nixed because of that deal. I’m biased and really enjoy Whistling Straits.
Implosions happen to the best of them. I don’t see it as an issue especially since DeChambeau hasn’t shown a repeated pattern of them. More important to a captain’s pick I think will be the old kindergarten questionHow well does he play with others?
Can’t sum it up any better. I do think Finau’s major-championship consistency would help his case. But for that last spot don’t you want to roll out a fiery rookie? I think Bryson would actually be a great pick. Let’s see how these next few weeks play out.
You split the baby because you have no other choices. The governing bodies want to reward effort in the map-making department. It will be hard to enforce but the players need to do that more than the officials. It’s a work in progress.
I’m not saying I agree with it but Bryson would be particularly easy to leave off as “a poor team fit” if he doesn’t auto qualify right? Although he’s a particular favorite of assistant captain Woods. Xander Schauffele should also be sure to lock his spot in; a lack of seniority may have him on the outside looking in otherwise.
It was captivating TV and I certainly felt bad for him. But this would only cost him a Ryder Cup spot if it happened the week before captain’s picks and it was clear a spot was on the line. Final-round bust-ups happen. He has a few more weeks to make a statement and in the process make the team.
The U.S. hasn’t won a road game in a quarter-century meaning Furyk is going to want hardened Ryder Cuppers and Le Golf National is tight and quirky so I think Kuchar and Z. Johnson are sure to be picked.
